Sanctity Of Life & Protecting Women
· SB 31 Life of the Mother Act – The Heartbeat bill is one of the strongest bills on preventing abortions, but due to doctors not fully understanding the protections in this act to the life of a mother, this session I was able to co-author SB 31 which clarifies that the only reason for an abortion is if a mother’s life is at risk or substantial harm could occur to the mother.
· What Is A Woman Bill – In recent years, the concept of womanhood has been degraded, and Texas has had enough. That is why I was proud to co-author HB 229, which defines what a woman is, and ensures that women’s rights are protected in Texas.
· SB 15 – Passed in the 88th Session, this historic piece of legislation protected women and girls by making sure that biological men could not compete in women’s sports. Women have fought for decades for their equal rights and their ability to compete in their own sports, a right which some people have decided to try and circumvent for their own gain. With the passage of SB 15, we showed that Texas stands with women and their right to compete fairly.
· The Texas Heartbeat Act – I coauthored and helped pass landmark legislation in 2021 to protect the unborn once a heartbeat was detected. This law, SB 8, was the first Heartbeat Bill in the nation to withstand federal scrutiny due to its unique enforcement through civil action. If a heartbeat is detected, that life must be protected!
· About a year prior to the US Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade, I coauthored and helped pass HB 1280, known as the trigger ban bill, which would ban abortion within 30 days of the overturning of Roe. Little did we know how important this bill would become in such a short amount of time.
· In a special session of the 87th Texas Legislature, I helped pass SB 4, an important law banning drugs purchased by mail to induce an abortion. These drugs are obviously dangerous for the baby – as they are meant to kill her – but they are also extremely dangerous for the mom and can lead to severe complications and even death for the mother.
· Being prolife isn’t just about protecting little unborn babies, but also includes making sure new moms are safe and healthy. That’s why in 2023, I supported HB 12, allowing new moms on Medicaid the ability to continue to receive care for up to 12 months after their baby is born.
· Each and every session, I have filed or supported budget amendments to increase funding to the Alternatives to Abortion program. This important program provides assistance to new moms and makes the decision to choose life easier by providing necessities like diapers, formula and counseling services.
