· One of many significant healthcare issues Texans faced prior to the 2021 legislative session was surprise medical bills. When a patient’s hospital and doctor were in-network, he or she could still be hit with outrageous medical bills from other providers engaged in the procedure. In response, I helped pass SB 1264 to end surprise medical bills in Texas.

· In 2023, I helped pass another major win for healthcare competition and transparency in HB 711. This bill eliminates anti-competitive clauses in healthcare contracts and opens the state to more competition among providers by providing greater cost transparency for patients to access before seeking treatment.

· Along those same lines, I supported and helped pass SB 490, which requires hospitals and other healthcare facilities to provide an itemized billing to patients before seeking final payment. SB 490 is a major win for transparency in healthcare costs.
