· Serving on the Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee along with the Calendars Committee during the 87th legislative session meant that I had the unique opportunity to push through numerous laws protecting the right to keep and bear arms. Among our legislative victories was HB 1927, Constitutional Carry, which I coauthored and got to the House Floor for a vote for the first time in history. For the first time since reconstruction, Texans no longer have to ask the government’s permission to protect themselves, their families and their property.

· During that same session, I also helped pass HB 2622, making Texas a Sanctuary State for the 2nd Amendment and legislation clarifying a government executive can never shut down firearm or ammunition sales in Texas.

· I have supported and helped pass numerous other pro-2nd Amendment bills, including legislation clarifying your right to carry your firearm to your hotel room overnight, during a disaster declaration and on your person and in your vehicle.
