(Frisco, TX) – It has been brought to my attention that Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is hosting an Islamic Games with sponsors such as Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) New Jersey and others with tied to CAIR.

In the 89th Legislative Session, I filed HR 971, a resolution highlighting concerns with the CAIR organization and declaring them unwelcome within the Texas State Capitol. In the past few years, CAIR has been credibly linked to terrorist organizations such as the Muslim Brotherhood and  Hamas, at which point the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) suspended contracts with CAIR. Further, high ranking members within CAIR have been tried and sentenced to prison for working with foreign terrorist organizations. This past November, Governor Greg Abbott formally designated CAIR as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, further emphasizing the concern with this organization.

As a State Representative in the North Texas area, I am formally urging Grapevine-Colleyville ISD to cease partnership with organizations linked to terrorism and harm across the globe. All Independent School Districts and taxpayer funded organizations must completely sever ties with organizations linked terrorism permanently.

State Representative Jared Patterson is serving his fourth term representing House District 106 in Denton County. Patterson is the Chairman of the Local & Consent Calendars Committee. He also serves on the House Committees on Licensing & Administrative Procedures, Transportation, and the Subcommittee on Transportation Funding. He and his family reside in Frisco.
